Starting applications specified in /home/gary/.vnc/xstartup I believe the program is started on the local desktop, because it is running:Ģ3725 ? Ssl 1:40 /usr/bin/nautilus -gapplication-service Starting a terminal or opening the file manager appears to work, but is never displayed locally. The first time it says "Authentication is required to create a color profile." The second time it says "Authentication is required to refresh the system repositories." The third time is again to "create a color profile." It then finally shows the full desktop. It prompts me three times to authenticate. I can connect and see the remote desktop. $ vncserver :1 -geometry 800圆00 -depth 24Ģ5366 pts/0 Sl 0:02 /usr/bin/Xvnc :1 -auth /home/gary/.Xauthority -depth 24 -desktop :1 (gary) -fp catalogue:/etc/X11/fontpath.d -geometry 800圆00 -pn -rfbauth /home/gary/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5901 -rfbwait 30000 When I run the following command as the regular user: I should add that I've also tried vncserver, and while I can successfully connect to the remote desktop, any new windows created are apparently displayed on the actual desktop and not on my vncviewer desktop. If you don't have any idea what could be causing the problem, perhaps you have a suggestion for a vncserver that does work? I followed the directions here, for ArchLinux: I've seen other reports of this, but they're old and not really relevant any longer. I was having trouble with vncserver on a fedora29 desktop that I'd like to access remotely, so I'm now trying x0vncserver (also part of TigerVNC?) and having the same problem where only a black screen appears on the remote desktop after connecting.
